Family structure (divorced\\ other singleparent\\two-parent family) at the age of 14 was included. This was classified as either singleparent or two-parent depending on the child's family placement at birth. This is due to the selection of a small number of parents (a singleparent in these simulations), analogous to the phenomenon of genetic drift. Low birth weight is also related to maternal stress, a lack of social support, and being a singleparent. We assume that individuals live for two periods and have a singleparent and a single child, that is, there is no population growth. However, analyses of individual patterns yield a surprising result : no singleparent adheres to this group pattern. Heritabilities were calculated from singleparent regressions involving the regression of family means onto parental means. The linkage phase defines the configuration of alleles of a pair of heterozygous loci over the homologous chromosomes in a singleparent. About 40% of the boys lived with a singleparent, and about 40% of the caretakers received public assistance. At the time of interview, five were living with both parents, three with a singleparent and one young adult was living on his own. These included exposure to other substances prenatally, socioeconomic status, singleparent status, parent antisocial behavior, and maternal responsiveness. Years with a singleparent indexes the number of years from birth to age 11 years that the study member lived with a singleparent. A sizeable proportion of the sample (44.9%) lived with a singleparent, and more than one third received public assistance (36.2%). Creating a child with literally a "singleparent" would, however, create significant concerns related to inbreeding. The number of years study members spent in a singleparent home between birth and the age15 assessment was recorded. Of 60 foster families recruited to participate, 27 (46%) were singleparent families (11 widowed, 11 divorced, and 5 never married). Interestingly, although being a singleparent does not seem to impact on exit, not being married does seem to be significant and negative. This pattern could tentatively be thought to reflect the pattern relating the incidence of overcrowding, unemployment and singleparent families in some of the areas with high attempt rates. At the start of the study, 79 families were intact, 45 had a singleparent, 57 had a stepparent, and 23 had experienced three or more transitions. This worked out in the case of offspring which shared alleles with only either the singleparent (selfing) or the pair of parents (allowed to outcross). Existence of new possibilities to express individual choices could explain, at least partly, the large number of households headed by a single person or a singleparent. However, even members of singleparent households with older children do not perform better than the reference group, neither do single women or couples with young children. For instance, demographic data show a significant number of households headed by a female single parent who supports herself and her family mainly through state assistance or from wage earnings. I welcome the eventual elimination of the singleparent advantage for new single parents, but that is some time in the future. From the Hansard archive Example from the Hansard archive.
