When comparing two sentences, the first constraint is that the similarityscore is 100% if the two sentences are identical.
Moreover, it uses a comparison of question types in a taxonomy derived from the query, and a semantic similarityscore in question matching.
Their linguistic matcher looks at all possible pairs of terms from the two ontologies and assigns a similarityscore to each pair.
The similarityscore of two strings is then normalised with respect to the highest generated score in the application.
Then, summation over all categories produces the similarityscore of the two sentences under comparison.
