The schizophreniaspectrum is considered here to include schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, and paranoid personality disorder. They are likely to meet criteria for personality disorders within the schizophreniaspectrum or be considered to have subclinical features of spectrum disorders. Fish et al. (1992) diagnosed at least 6 of these patients at adulthood as having severe schizophreniaspectrum disorders and one as having schizophrenia. All subjects met criteria for a schizophreniaspectrum disorder. Those with less acute disorders in the schizophreniaspectrum may share biological vulnerabilities leading to similar but milder declines in function. We used the more inclusive diagnostic grouping schizophreniaspectrum disorders to increase sample size for analyses. There are many sorts of overlap between affective illness and the schizophreniaspectrum. Nine subjects were excluded as they did not have schizophrenia, schizophreniaspectrum or bipolar affective disorder, and one because of being too psychiatrically unwell. The sample included seven adoptees with schizophreniaspectrum disorders, but a separate analysis to predict them was non-significant. Of those patients for whom a 1-year follow-up diagnosis was available, 80 % had a diagnosis within the schizophreniaspectrum of disorders. These examples are from corpora and from sources on the web.
