The therapeutic options for early and late postoperative thrombosis are operative removal or thrombolytic therapy. Postoperative echocardiography showed a satisfactory intracardiac repair with no residual shunts and minimal regurgitation across the left atrioventricular valve. Implantation of a pacemaker to treat postoperative atrioventricular dissociation was necessary in two patients. Two patients developed permanent postoperative atrioventricular block requiring insertion of a pacemaker. Postoperative injection at the site of the anastomosis between the homograft and the pulmonary arteries shows dilatation of the homograft with pulmonary regurgitation. On the first postoperative day, the stent in the orifice of the right pulmonary vein migrated to the descending aorta. Preoperative angiograms were unavailable for 5 patients, and postoperative films were unavailable for an additional 2 patients. Table 1 shows the postoperative diagnoses and procedures performed in the 110 patients who underwent arthroscopy. Clinically meaningful postoperative pain was assessed at follow-up interviews 2, 10, and 30 days after surgery. One (7.1%) died during the early postoperative period (30 days), while the other died shortly after discharge from hospital. Postoperative relief percentages were given by the patients themselves. Two had postoperative problems; one developed complete heart block and required a pacemaker, another had re-operation for repair of the right ventricular outflow tract. The effects of delirium on postoperative functional status were assessed in conjunction with postoperative depressive symptoms using regression models. Postoperative course was uneventful and cross-sectional echocardiography performed prior to discharge showed an intact repair. In addition, 9% of patients died, 9% developed seizures, and 18% had significant postoperative infections. Importantly, no unique technical issues relative to deployment were found in the immediate postoperative period, although complications can occur. In contrast, the immediate postoperative level of venous pressure can be related to reversible factors. Postoperative complication rate was 24%-significant arrhythmia (3), recurred coronary arteriovenous fistulas (1), psychosis (1), pneumonia (1). Five of these patients had suffered intraoperative or postoperative problems or had a re-operation. The surgical technique described herein offers new hope in avoiding postoperative aortic insufficiency. Our report discusses policies for postoperative prophylaxis as well as treatment of the acute thrombosis, including thrombolytic therapy with tissue plasminogen activator.
