Once the problem of context or the work's cultural horizon is introduced, the matter of politicalefficacy also comes into view. By the same token, politicalefficacy and group efficacy should favour the winning party compared with the losing party. As with attitude uncertainty, there are grounds for suspecting that engaging in political conversation may enhance individuals' sense of politicalefficacy. We first review the evidence regarding the relationship between electoral systems, politicalefficacy, strength of partisan attachments and turnout. Additionally, internal politicalefficacy is hypothesized to be associated with both openness to experience and extroversion. Other factors, most notably education, also contribute to feelings of politicalefficacy. Politicalefficacy is of interest here because it can play an important role in shaping a wide range of attitudes and behaviour. However, media criticism has no effect on voter attitudes on politicalefficacy. Some minimal degree of politicalefficacy is a consequence of residential concentration. Politicalefficacy, political engagement and an assessment of political reforms were not significantly related to confidence in government institutions. But in the 1992 politicalefficacy and social tolerance models, the coefficients for non-family members are larger than are those for family members. This indicates that coalition size reduces voter participation independent of politicalefficacy. The indicator of individual politicalefficacy is designed to measure the extent to which respondents feel that they can influence politics.
