Often, dextrocardia, complete atrioventricular septal defect, and transposed great arteries occur in both right atrial and left atrial isomerism. Furthermore, with this variant atrial neoseptation, the living and contractile right atrial flap now acts as part of the newly formed left atrium. The second possibility is that a subclinical degree of tricuspid regurgitation led to hypertrophy and dilatation of the left atrium and precipitated atrial fibrillation.
