To model the moneymarket, we consider the services of money as a factor of production, demanded by firms and government. Real estate amounts to e1.1 billion (18 %) and shortterm moneymarket investments to e0.9 billion (14 %). The moneymarket includes also a household demand equation. Over a 20-year period they range from 3.2 % for the moneymarket funds to 4.8 % for equity funds. The model for demand deposits under such a regime would be something on the order of modern moneymarket mutual funds. From this paper's perspective, the most important part of this story was creating the central bank and the moneymarket. Moneymarket equilibrium requires the demand for money to equal the supply of real money balances. The mean-reverting behavior of the error-correction term shows that disequilibria in the moneymarket are eventually corrected. The equilibrium conditions for the economy require that the moneymarket clears and the trade is balanced. I was expert in that, and it gave me insight into the moneymarket from a technical and intellectual standpoint. Nominal income is the variable that clears the moneymarket. The moneymarket clearing condition (24) deserves some comment. However, the moneymarket became a major vehicle for monetary policy only in 1992-1993. For example, the liquidity benefits of having a moneymarket fund are greatly reduced if the agent already has a large bank account surplus. However, the error correction term from the moneymarket was not needed to obtain a well-specified equation. This again can be linked to the adjustments necessary to restore moneymarket equilibrium following the disinflation. The same applies to investments in a sponsor, real estate investment, and moneymarket investments, which all fluctuate dramatically between the funds. Therefore, the moneymarket must reach an equilibrium through changes in nominal income. There will be a unique level of real income that clears the moneymarket, making the money demand equal to the money supply. Typically, the asset classes include fixed income, equities, real estate, moneymarket instruments, venture capital, and private investments. On the average, the own-yield of money has moved along with the 1-month moneymarket rate, but the responses have been smaller than unity (0.633). These simulations (not reported) show that as the interest elasticity of money demand decreases, so do the price and output adjustments required for moneymarket equilibrium. A portfolio of investments, instead, is characterised by equity securities, debt securities in the form of bonds and notes, other moneymarket instruments and financial derivatives. The moneymarket also includes household demand. As the exchange rate becomes less effective as a means of restoring equilibrium, because of lower pass-through, the role of consumption in restoring moneymarket equilibrium increases. The investment portfolio of a pension fund is here divided into five asset classes: long-term fixed income securities, equity, short-term moneymarket instruments, real estate, and other investments. The same applies to investments in a sponsor, real estate investment, and moneymarket investments. It also reflects the fact that the consumption adjustment required to restore equilibrium in the moneymarket diminishes as goods prices slowly adjust to the disinflation. Moneymarket includes short-term debt instruments. The relationship between own-yield of money and 1-month moneymarket rate exhibits structural change in the intercept term. Figure 1 shows that the consumer price level must, regardless of the degree of pass-through, fall by approximately 2% in the long run in order to restore moneymarket equilibrium. The existing insurance groups would have to raise considerable funds on the moneymarket to finance their increased own funds requirements.
