Over the eight years, the gender gap in total income widened, with women's medianincome as a proportion of men's falling from 71 to 62 per cent. Bottom households are defined as those having half medianincome. For example for people aged 80 and over with income between 40 per cent and 80 per cent of median income, equity levels are quite constant at around £42,000 to £47,000.
