This will require progress in cross language retrieval and machinetranslation. Analogy-based machinetranslation, in particular the matching of source and target languages, is used as an example throughout the book. The basic analogical machinetranslation architecture, involving matching, recombination and generation is also presented. There has been related work in developing phrase-based models for statistical machinetranslation. For machinetranslation the languages will determine which senses are relevant. We also conducted some simple machinetranslation experiments using the word alignments thus obtained. Nevertheless, machinetranslation can be quite impressive in the right circumstances. Conventional machinetranslation systems designed for written language generally perform poorly when applied to spoken language. The quality of chunk pairs are measured by the performance of machinetranslation systems trained from them. Other papers in the same collection make reference to the head-modifier principle for term detection and extraction, as well as machinetranslation. For example, experiments in statistical named-entity detection or machinetranslation may benefit from using a deep parser as a feature generator. Something similar happens in machinetranslation, as long as the input is not too poor. In machinetranslation, as everywhere else, money reigns and research efforts mostly focus on potentially profitable projects. For machinetranslation, only sense differences lexicalized differently in the target language would be penalized, with the penalty proportional to communicative distance. On the other hand, in the case of applications such as machinetranslation, the analysis must be more rigorous. This is somewhat disappointing and other areas of speech and language technology (such as synthesis or machinetranslation) are not dealt with at all. The case roles in a source language clause can be used as part of an interlingua in machinetranslation. For the main word alignment and machinetranslation experiments, we used the third criteria. The systems considered range from stock market report generation modules to machinetranslation systems. We evaluate our model in context of statistical machinetranslation. We also show the advantage of having more parallel text for statistical machinetranslation system training. Table 4 is not intended for direct use in machinetranslation. The system is conceived as part of the generation phase of a machinetranslation system based on structural transfer. Instead of fully-automatic machinetranslation, a partially automated way of translating has been promoted in the so-called 'workstation approach'. So far, parallel texts have been used in data-driven approaches to machinetranslation mostly as means of learning lexical or phrasal equivalences. The chapter concludes by examining functional grammar and its application to machinetranslation. These chapters go clearly beyond grammar compilation and speech recognition by covering other aspects of natural language engineering such as dialogue management, machinetranslation, and generation. Machinetranslation has persisted as an application area, and one that has become much more publicly visible as a consequence of web search engine translation services. If near-perfect machinetranslation one day becomes widely available and if it is fast and easy to use, then the importance of having a lingua franca will diminish radically. Without access to an equivalent knowledge store, this task is difficult for machinetranslation as it involves far more than the manipulation of individual word semantics according to syntactic rules. Machinetranslation is one obvious application. Within the broad topic of machinetranslation, the articles deal with natural language processing, dictionaries and grammars, computer-assisted translation, the translation process, and cultural and cognitive aspects of translation. A number of references were made to machinetranslation, and indeed this formed an interesting part of the debate. From the Hansard archive Example from the Hansard archive.
