The incentives for landconservation move closer to the socially optimal, because the private costs of hiring labour move closer to the social costs, notwithstanding the perverse distributional effects. If this argument is correct, higher prices of land and/or output will increase the value of land conservation efforts, thereby encouraging greater conservation of natural resources. There is therefore a need to identify long-term prevention measures, which can be summed up using the concept of integrated landconservation.
