Good interoperability between different back offices depends on historical reasons and on the 'environment', the service-building capacity relevant for each of the cases. Agents in a multi-agent system are characterised by autonomy, adaptability, interoperability and dynamism. Within the 29 cases with a high degree of interoperability among back offices, several major strategic options were identified. Nor do they specify a framework supporting component interoperability. The proposal is to take copyright into account as a way to establish a common interoperability ground and means to incorporate user rights. It remains difficult to quantify payoff and economic benefits of information interoperability, something that should be seen as a public good. The most important constraint was interoperability, the possibility of interacting with software written in other languages. A major challenge facing industry today is the lack of interoperability between heterogeneous systems. These pieces of knowledge have to be consistent with the preexisting knowledge structure of the costing expert for reasons of interoperability. This has consequences, of course, impacting on the interoperability of argument systems and the exchange of test sets. The alternative approach is to cultivate pockets of common language and interoperability. The survey also proposes to enhance existing models by embedding other current standards to enable automation and interoperability of the entire process. There is a great deal of work where agents support electronic commerce, in general, but little work specifically attacks the problem of business-to-business interoperability. The language processing community has recognized that commonality and interoperability are increasingly imperative to enable sharing, merging, and comparison of language resources. These features, along with many others, are important for supporting ontology reuse, mapping and interoperability. These generic concepts enable interoperability between specialized discipline-oriented modules defined at a lower level of abstraction. The basic issue can be seen as one of interlanguage interoperability: we wish to make values defined in one language available for use in another. Figure 1 illustrates different means of governance covered by service integration; governance here describes interoperability among agencies of the public sector. Figure 2 illustrates the conceptual architecture enabling interoperability between different applications. Therefore, key research areas are semantic mapping, translation and interoperability. However, existing middleware has no facilities to ease semantic interoperability between the different entities. The advocated semantic interoperability is based on using conversion functions, which convert a semantic value from one context to another.
