Examples of inline


These examples are from corpora and from sources on the web. Any opinions in the examples do not represent the opinion of the Cambridge Dictionary editors or of Cambridge University Press or its licensors.
However, as noted in section 2.2, even if the variable occurs just once, it is not always a good idea to inline it.
Users use defun-inline instead of defun if they intend for the function to be inlined, and defun-exec in place of defun otherwise.
To support function inlining, we implement two macros: defun-inline and defun-exec.
We finally discovered the three-phase inline mechanism we have described.
Concerning the last of these items, notice that we (unconventionally) use the term "inline" equally for both functions and non-functions.
We assume that f and h have already been defined using defun-inline or defun-exec.
As an example, consider the following definitions of functions foo and bar where we wish to inline all calls of foo.
Requests for inline images (indicated by the tag) are evaluated eagerly and displayed inline.
The implication here is that any inline images to be included need to be carefully optimised in terms of the file size.
Only the unknown calls are included: we don't care about known functions because we generate inline code for their calls.
A simple solution to this problem is to inline only those functions that are used exactly once and whose actual parameters are just atoms (variables or literals).
Each function call carries some overhead, so it may be advantageous to inline functions, by expanding the function body at the places where the function is used.
The inline predicate is the interesting bit.
Another problem is that some of the functions we might want to inline (such as uncurry wrappers) do not yet exist at the time of module elaboration.
However, if the body of the original function is very small, as is the case for dm above, then it is probably better instead to inline the entire function.
Compilers will often automatically inline simple expressions.
