All measurement systems have associated noise, and inertialnavigation systems, which integrate rate information, are therefore subject to orientational drift errors.
This arrangement also permits ease of system maintenance and makes the addition of devices such as inertialnavigation units, laser imaging systems, or manipulators possible.
The advantage of inertialnavigation systems is that they are self-contained and can provide very fast and dynamic measurements.
In this system, called dead reckoning or inertialnavigation, movement is automatically used to update location information.
The use of an inertialnavigation system for path integration would be another alternative to the abovementioned methods.
They reported a typical error of 12 degrees after 5 minutes (commercial, high-quality and expensive inertialnavigation systems have a typical drift of about 2 km after 1 hour).
I refer not only to inertialnavigation equipment, but to the airborne radar, the cockpit display equipment, and the electro-optic and laser equipment.
