Our results highlight the need for further work at the interface of immunology and ecology. Of course one could speak, in this context, of immunology and immunogenetics. In short, the potency of immunology has resulted in the imposition of its own definitions on how we now regard ourselves. These observations have led to the suggestion that implantation might utilise a novel immune system which is different to that seen in clinical transplantation immunology.
