With binocular vision gripaperture matched block-size and was not affected by its distance for both the patients and the control subjects. The "control" phase of the movement determines the fine-tuning of certain elements of the reach, such as gripaperture, hand configuration, and target acquisition. In contrast, gripaperture was not affected by head restriction. They measured eight kinematic parameters, including two relating to gripaperture. For example, the early portions of the gripaperture or hand orientation profiles might be disrupted when damage to planning regions occurs. The illusion affected subjects' judgments but did not affect their gripaperture. A significant effect of the illusion on gripaperture was, however, observed in this study. However, maximum gripaperture was still affected by the illusion to some extent, suggesting that the context had played some role in the shaping of the hand. These researchers also found that gripaperture was not influenced by the illusory size, but they did show that the illusion did influence the force used to lift the disks. The matching task yielded significant effects of the illusion under both viewing conditions, but gripaperture was found not to yield significant effects under both viewing conditions. Monocular vision yielded longer movement times, lower peak velocities, and smaller grip apertures than binocular vision. Thus, when a delay is introduced between viewing a display and initiating the grasping movement, the scaling of the gripaperture is now sensitive to illusions.
