On one level the river of arthistory is flowing inexorably ' down ' over the course of centuries, towards the degraded end of earthly sensuality. Three essays in arthistory are particularly wide-ranging. Many of those ideas, theories, and methodologies are borrowed from other disciplines, mostly anthropology and ethnography, but also arthistory, economics, and biology. Employing classical arthistory in combination with post-processualism it offers a radically new account of the southern part of the island in this period.
