The term refers to a disruption of interconnecting fibres that link spatially distributed regions in the brain. The interior one is called the core of the fibre and the exterior one is called the cladding. Highly useful, but only available (or at least, only reliable) in specialist centres, is single fibre electromyography of limb and facial muscles. After approximately 15 min, isolated muscle fibres could be visualized using a microscope. In this investigation, quantification of fibre quality in individual bolls revealed wide variations in fibre maturity. Some fibres contain pleomorphic hyaline, granular and amorphous deposits, ranging from red-blue to dark blue in trichrome stain. Fibrous vein structures, often with curved fibres and selvages on vein walls, suggest a diffusion mass transport mechanism from the rock into veins during deformation. Both veins and stems show fine longitudinal striae, probably representing the lignified vascular fibres. That would inhibit the compression of the fibre plasma to the desired parameter regime.
